Job Description

Performs all the financial affairs of the company including the general accounting functions such as the general ledger, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable and payroll and the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balance and other financial results. Formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the company to assure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business and provide reliable information necessary to control operations.  Supervises the accounting staff.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Executes management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws and includes the overall direction; planning; and coordination of the payroll; billing; accounts receivable and accounts payable departments and the staff accountants.

  • Responsible for and maintains the General Ledger, Month End and Year End Closing reporting, and financial statement preparation.

  • Supervises the payroll; billing; accounts receivable and payable staff accountants.

  • Acts as the primary interface with all auditors concerning financial information

  • Submits annual Cost Submission for DCAA.

  • Manages daily cash.

  • Manages staff positions within the accounting department to include interviewing potential candidates, providing on-the-job training, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems of subordinate positions

  • Identifies repetitive timekeeping administrative issues and works to resolve them as well as to develop policies toward preventing common problems.

  • Ensures that the workspaces are properly maintained, and that routine clean-up is accomplished.

  • Pursues professional development opportunities to increase job skills and capabilities.

  • Contributes to continuous process improvement efforts as they relate to current job assignment and other improvements throughout the company when identified

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as directed.



  Works under general direction and receives guidance, as required, from the CAO or higher- level professionals.  Assignments are often self-initiated determining and pursuing courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.  Responsible for making decisions and recommendations impacting the company’s ability to achieve goals critical to its objectives and possibly affecting its business reputation. Work is reviewed at intervals for soundness of judgment and overall compliance with accepted practices. The candidate may provide technical guidance to lower level staff.


This position provides supervision and leadership to lower level staff. 


  • Minimum seven (7) years of accounting experience with an additional five (5) years of which spent in a government contract environment.

  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and DoD procurement policies and procedures.

  • Experience in managing Federal Cost Reimbursable, Fixed Price and/or Time and Material contracts as they relate to acquisition, installation and life cycle support of military systems and equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills.

  • Computer literacy, including use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

  • Must have significant accounting system experience (Deltek/Costpoint, QuickBooks, etc.) and COGNOS experience.

  • Candidate must be a proactive team player with the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment, to work independently and to prioritize completing tasks while meeting short deadlines.


Education / Specialized Training

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting and ten (10) plus years of related experience. (Master’s Degree in Accounting is preferred); OR

Associate Degree in Finance or Accounting and twelve (12) years of managerial or business-related experience
